In the view of the mindless killing of innocent kids and civilians in Connecticut, I feel that in today’s world ‘manners’ are taking precedence over ‘morals’.
We teach kids etiquette: How to walk, talk, eat, dress, converse etc – all manners. But what about Morals? Somewhere the morals are getting buried under the manners.
Morals: Compassion & Responsibility
I believe that if people learn to practice compassion towards themselves and others and understand that if you are down and miserable, the solution is not that you bring others down with you, but that you take responsibility for your problems and work on them, then the world would be a better place.
If we as parents practice and model behavior that shows compassion for others, more tolerance for other’s viewpoints and respect for differences, then our kids will learn the same.
We need to understand that hurting others for no rhyme or reason to simply vent out frustration and anger is definitely wrong. We have a responsibility towards ourselves and others.
